Lens Resonance System® (LRS)
Discover Lens Resonance System® (LRS), a patented guitar top structure used in Riento® guitars to improve balance, volume and tone.
Patented Finnish Guitar Design Inside Every Riento®
Lens Resonance System® (LRS) is a patented internal support structure built into the guitar top to reinforce the area around the bridge. Developed in Finland and used exclusively in Riento® guitars, it is designed to improve the instrument’s balance, volume and tone.
What is Lens Resonance System®?
The Lens Resonance System® (LRS) is an internal structural design built into the inside of the guitar soundboard. Its purpose is to reinforce and stabilize the bridge area, which plays a critical role in how the guitar top vibrates and transfers energy into sound.
By strengthening this key part of the soundboard, the Lens Resonance System® helps the guitar respond in a more controlled and efficient way. The result is a guitar that is designed to offer a more balanced tonal response, stronger projection and a more refined musical character.
For players, this means a more rewarding playing experience — whether the guitar is used for learning, regular practice or more active performance.
Developed in Finland
The Lens Resonance System® was developed in Finland in the 1990s through the collaboration of Kauko Liikanen and Uwe Florath. Their goal was to improve how the guitar top behaves structurally and acoustically, especially in the area around the bridge where string energy is transferred most directly into the instrument. The innovation was officially patented in 2000, making it a unique part of modern Finnish guitar design.
A Proven Part of Finnish Guitar Making
After its development, the Lens Resonance System® was used in both handcrafted Liikanen guitars and the industrially produced Kantare guitars created by the same makers. Since 2022, the Lens Resonance System® has been featured exclusively in Riento® guitars, making it a defining element of the brand’s construction philosophy.
Continuous Development and Innovation
The development of the Lens Resonance System® has continued into modern Riento guitar design. Between 2023 and 2025, Tomi Tolvanen of Musiikkitoteemi Oy and Ville-Veikko Ponkiniemi explored how the Lens Resonance System® structure could be adapted for steel-string guitars, specifically in 02 and D-body sizes.
Through multiple prototypes and refinements, the optimal structure was achieved. As a result, in 2026, the new Acoustic D-Series was introduced, featuring a newly developed A-type LRS, designed specifically for this series.
This work represents an important step in expanding the Lens Resonance System® beyond its original applications and into new types of acoustic guitars.
Why Lens Resonance System® Matters
The construction of a guitar has a major effect on how it sounds, feels and responds under the fingers. Even small differences in top structure can influence the balance between strings, the clarity of notes and the overall musical character of the instrument. The Lens Resonance System® is designed to support key performance qualities that matter to guitarists at every level.
Benefits of Lens Resonance System®
- Better balance across the strings
- Greater volume and projection
- Improved tone and musical response
Together, these qualities help define the sound and playing experience of Riento® guitars.
